History of the Parish:
The Mission in the Carrasco neighbourhood of Montevideo started with a group of people sent from the English Parish of the Cathedral by Bishop Bill Godfrey, under the supervision of Father Bergeson, the then Director of ITAM.
Its objective was to reach out to people with family roots in the Anglican church. The ministry was conducted in Spanish. Although there was a good response at times, there was no strong ongoing support from the original target group and consequently the mission of this congregation has been through a period of transition. It has emerged as a community of the faithful, small in numbers but stable.
There has been several changes in leadership including Rev. David Bergeson and Vicky, Ed and Yvonne Charbonnier, Rev. Terry Ensor, Bishop Bill Godfrey, Dan and Kathy Klooster, Rev. Steve Carter and Rev-Deacon Heather Carter who developed a ministry to the deaf community. Since May 2004 Father Gonzalo Soria has led the parish.
During this journey we have used three locations as well as the homes of the congregation, especially the house of the Hoopers. The locations used were the Lutheran Chapel in Mones Roses, the Saint Joseph´s Roman Catholic Chapel and now the current chapel in the street Gallinal in North Malvin.
With the reform of the chapel in Gallinal we have begun a new stage of mission in the area. Our building is of use to the Diocese for reunions, retreats and to look after guests.
